Aims of the course
The MBA is the premier qualification for individuals wishing to progress to strategic-level positions in their organisation. It aims to provide a rigorous grounding in the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary for participants to operate effectively as strategic general managers in a variety of environments.

The University's provision in Business and Management was rated 'Excellent' in recent subject reviews by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, and this MBA complies fully with all QAA benchmarks.
Key features of the course are the Masters conference, held over a weekend at the start of the course, and small teaching groups, as we believe that personal attention is necessary for success on an MBA. There is also an emphasis on teamwork and personal development.
Entry requirements
A UK Honours degree, or equivalent qualification, plus at least two years of post-graduation management experience; and where appropriate an English language test, a minimum score on the IELTS of 6.5, or equivalent. Applicants with a Diploma in Management Studies (DMS) or professional qualification may be exempt from all, or part of, Stage One of the course.
Course structure
The MBA (full-time) is divided into two stages. Stage One lasts one semester and consists of seven modules, which give a solid grounding in all the key business functions. Stage Two has a strategic emphasis and consists of five modules and a dissertation.

Research Methods A
Stage Two relates the material of Stage One to major strategic issues.
The modules are:

Research Methods B
Free option
You also complete one elective module (which is a module of your choice that is used to further focus study in a particular area of management). The dissertation is a major piece of work of approximately 15,000 words, based on research into an organisation or industry. The Research Methods module in Stage Two of the course prepares you for this.
Assessment
Assessments vary according to the nature of each module. Typically there are group reports, group presentations, individual reports and examinations.
