Introduction
The MBA programme is of interest to practising managers who are seeking to develop their management skills and enhance their career prospects. The aim of the MBA programme is to educate individuals as managers and business specialists, and thus to improve the quality of management as a profession. Masters programmes add value to first degrees and managerial experience by developing in individuals an integrated and critically aware understanding of management and organisations. This should enable those graduating with MBAs to take effective roles within the business and management environment.
Content and Structure
The programme has ten compulsory modules that facilitate the:
-Advanced study of organisations, their management and the changing external context in which they operate; -Development of a career in business and management by developing skills at a professional level, or as preparation for research or further study in the area;
-Development of the ability to apply knowledge and understanding of business and management to complex issues, both systematically and creatively, to improve business and management practice;
Enhancement of lifelong learning skills and personal development so as to be able to work with selfdirection and originality and to contribute to business and society at large.
Students must complete all three academic phases consisting of nine taught modules, a project proposal and complete a major management project (of three modules equivalence).

The Management Project (equivalent to three modules)
Module Assessment
Assignments may take a number of forms: timed examinations, presentations, essays and case studies. In a number of modules there may be a limited use of multiple-choice assessments in the early stages. Assignments will normally be of the equivalence of a minimum of 3000 words.
The Management Project Proposals of a minimum of 2,500 words will be assessed at the conclusion of the Research Methods Module. Students must receive a pass mark for their project proposal before they are allowed to proceed to the Management Project stage. Students are required to pass all modules. The Management Project will be of 11,000 words or equivalence.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have a good honours degree or a DMS at M level, and be a recent manager in an organisation for at least two years.
Overseas students must demonstrate entry qualifications equivalent to those above. Additionally they will also be expected to demonstrate an ability to reason/express arguments both in spoken and written English sufficient to satisfy the University’s regulations.
In addition to the entry requirements above, if your first language is not English you will need to demonstrate proficiency to English Academic IELTS 6.5.
If you do not have the entry qualifications for our MSc, we are also developing a Pre-Masters Course leading to a Certificate in Management Studies. This is designed for students who need to improve both their English and their study skills before they begin post -graduate study at a British University. The Pre-Masters course is intended to run from April 2003.
Learning Outcomes of the Masters in Business Administration
Students who successfully complete the course should be able to:

Explore and examine critically the philosophy and principles of organisational behaviour;
Analyse and apply the principles of managerial economics;

Examine critically the theory and practice of corporate responsibility;
Apply reflectively management techniques to a wide range of business problems;
Make effective use of a range of research skills and techniques to conduct and present a management project

The figures quoted above are inclusive of registration, examination and validation fees.
Students are advised to allow approximately £500 per month to cover basic living expenses (accommodation, meals and local transport). Additional amounts should be allowed for books, clothing, entertainment, etc.
Information about application for scholarship awards is sent with programme offer letters.
Tuition fees may be subject to change.
A Deposit of £3,500 is required of which £2,300 is towards tuition fees and £1,100 towards accommodation. There is also a £100 non-returnable booking fee included in the deposit.
A 5% reduction in tuition fees is given if all tuition fees for the year are paid before arrival. Tuition fees and accommodation fees may be paid in instalments. If university accommodation is paid in full a 7.5% reduction is added to a university meal card.
A pre-sessional English for academic study and study skills programme is offered for free to all PG and UG students accepted onto a CCCU programme. |
